Daughters of ATATURK presents a trip to Shoah Foundation, May 1,
2001
About 20 members of ATA-SC and Daughters of Ataturk visited the
Shoah Foundation in Universal City on May 1, 2001. The Shoah
Foundation was created by Steven Spielberg during and after the
filming of Schindler’s List. The Foundation is not open to
invididuals but tour arrangements can be made.
The tour consisted of
meeting some volunteers who work there some of whom are
survivors of the Shoah, visiting documentation and cataloguing
rooms, duplication of tapes, mail room, archives and retrieval
areas and as well viewing a CD-rom that promotes tolerance.
I would like to thank H.E.
Amb. Berk telling us about the foundation and facilitating our
visit.

On
April 29, 2001 the kermes/bazaar and book signing at the Turkish
Consul’s residence was a great success thanks to the efforts of
Nuket Cehreli and her team in collecting, pricing and
presentation of the donated items and of Maria Cakiraga and her
team in food preparation.
About
40 people attended the kermes and book signing. Turkish
American author Alev Croutier was present to sign her books.
Her speech about herself and her writings were very informative.
