HURAMAN KASIMOVA

The Gold Medalist of the Maria Callas Competition-1981,Athens; One of the most outstanding voices of the
Ex-USSR was born in Baku,Azerbaijan in 1959 in a family which deeply appreciated music. Her pure lyrical
Soprano voice, with its characteristic fine silvery timbre and the taste; and creative artistry of her
performances are matched only by immense personal charm.
Her older sister Fidan Kasimova who is one of the most famous opera singers of the Soviet Union, was a
very good example model for her to follow a musical career. Even a side foray into cinema, where she
played the main role in several films and won a special price during the USSR-wide festival Promeheus-69,
did not divert the growing young diva from her chosen career.
In 1970 she enrolled at the Baku Conservatory to study voice, successfully completing her studies as a
vocal artist. As soon as she graduated, she was accepted to the State Opera as a soloist and she has
started to perform the most demanding roles with outstanding success. In a very short period of time
Mrs.Kasimova has mastered an immense opera repertoire. Yet at the very beginning years of her opera
career, she acted in the head roles of the operas such as AIDA, La Boheme, Iolanta, The Bride of the
Czar....etc. During these performances she has succeeded to gain the highest appreciations of even the
hardest-critics throughout the Soviet Union. She not only gained the highest appreciations from the
different music critics and writers but also has succeeded to win the Gold Medals in almost all of the
vocal competitions she participated in the Soviet Union and abroad. These contests also include
Tchaikovsky Contest (silver medal) and Trans-Caucasian Vocal competitions, which are the two most
important contests of the Ex-Soviet Union.
Mrs. Huraman Kasimova has been discovered by the Western World the first time after her winning of the
Gold Medal (Grand Prix) in the Maria Callas competition of 1981 in Athens. Immediately after the
competition she has been invited to Italy by Mr.Tito Gobbi but due to the political prohibitions of the
Soviet Union and also due to the fear of an asylum-escape of her, she was prohibited to leave the USSR
for some years and she couldn't honor the invitation of Mr.Gobbi at that point of time.
Mrs. Huraman Kasimova's ability to create striking theatrical images in her performances reveals her
individuality in full measures. Having a very rare, interesting voice-timber as well as a very wide
creative range and her perfect command in voice control allows her to include most difficult works and
styles in her repertoire. Mrs.Huraman Kasimova has not only performed in the leading concert halls in the
world as a chamber music singer, but also performed in different operas as an opera singer around the
world in a very wide geographic area starting from China until Cuba; from the USA to Europe.
