Gulsin Onay was born in Istanbul, into a family of musicians. Her mother was her first piano teacher.
Soon recognized as a child prodigy, she gave her first public concert at the age of six. With a stipend
of the Turkish State, she was sent to study at the Paris Conservatory. She graduated from there, aged
sixteen, with the Premier Prix du Piano. Her teachers were Nadia Boulanger, Pierre Sancan, Monique Haas,
Pierre Fiquet, Bruno Leonardo Gelber and Bernhard Ebert.
Gulsin Onay's career has been honored with a number of prizes in international piano competitions. She
has been awarded the title of Distinguished State Artist by a State decree, and an honorary doctorate in
music has been bestowed upon her by the Bogazici University in Istanbul.
Gulsin Onay gives piano recitals in major European music centers like Berlin, Paris and Milan, and she
gives solo performances with internationally famed orchestras such as the Orchestra of the Bavarian
Broadcasting Corporation, Staatskapelle Dresden, Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, Slovak Philharmonic,
Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.
Numerous concert tours take Ms. Onay throughout Western and Eastern Europe as well as to Japan, Korea,
China, North America, Australia, and to the Soviet Union. Her gramophone recordings comprise classical
music of many periods, including contemporary composers.
