FAWN TANRIVERDI
Country: United States of America
Profession: Counselor
Fawn Tanriverdi has been a counselor at Irvine Valley Community College since 1991. In her first
assignment, Fawn provided academic, career, and personal counseling to economically and educationally
disadvantaged students. In 1992, she was selected to coordinate the newly-funded Cooperative Agencies
Resources for Education (CARE) program which provides supportive services to welfare dependent, single
parents. Under her guidance, the program has grown from 28 to nearly 100 students and boasts numerous
successfully employed graduates.
Fawn has been a strong advocate for welfare mothers in Orange County. As a member of the OC Social
Services Agency’s Educational Providers Task Force, she has been instrumental in the formulation of
Orange County’s welfare reform policies as they relate to community college students. She has also
actively recruited teen parents to enroll in college as a critical step toward self-sufficiency.
She states that establishing a new AmeriCorps program at IVC in 1997, has been her greatest challenge and
her most rewarding accomplishment. The IVC AmeriCorps program serves children in the community by
recruiting students (mostly young parents themselves) to provide one-on-one literacy tutoring to children
in pre-school through third grade. AmeriCorps members reap the personal rewards of serving their community
and their dedication makes a difference in the lives of hundreds of children each year.
Fawn resides in North Tustin with her husband and two sons with whom she shares the joys of high school
volleyball and AYSO soccer.
