Title: Hagia Sophia - A Vision of Empires

Author: Text: Cyril Mango - Photographs: Ahmet Ertug

Publisher: Ertug & Kocabiyik Publications

Review: Among the great buildings of the world that have been erected for the worship of god, few embody the power and mystery of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. This outstanding book captures the qualities of this greatest of Byzantine edifices. The text is by Prof. Cyril Mango, and internationally-respected authority on Byzantine art and architecture. Spectacular, large-format photography by Ahmet Ertug captivates the reader with views of the colossal inner space and detailed images of the building's mosaics and architectural details, making this book and enthralling experience. Also included is a selection of remarkable 18th and 19th century drawings of Hagia Sofia. The book is hardboard in moiré cloth and presented in a slipcase, 230 pages including vertical and horizontal foldouts. 41 by 30 cms.
