Review: A facsimile edition of eight stunning panoramic watercolor illustrations of Constantinople
executed in 1582 by Zacharias Wehme for the Hapsburgs emperor depict imperial processions (the sultan
going to Friday prayer, the sultan setting out on a hunt, the procession of the queen mother, a wedding
procession, a harem entertainment scene, ladies proceeding to the baths, the arrival of the Crimean
embassy at Topkapi Palace, and an imperial residence) have been faithfully reproduced by Swiss and
Italian printing specialists. The accompanying text Dr. Esin Atil, a respected authority on Ottoman Art.
16 test pages, 8 folded plates. Album format 34,5 by 46,5 cms. (currently out of print).
